Tutoring vs Coaching: Should you be learning a subject or learning to learn

tutor and student

You have heard of the saying “Give a person a fish and you will feed them for a day, but teach them how to fish and you will feed them for a lifetime!”

Well … I am here to tell you that this is not actually true … what if there is no fish? What if fishing is banned? Having the skills to fish won’t feed you for a lifetime … BUT

What if you learnt how you learnt to fish? That’s right – what if you could Learn to Learn?

Then you could apply this knowledge to ANYTHING, not just fishing.

This is why I don’t really agree with tutoring that focuses on learning about one or two subjects, for example, Maths or Physics or Chemistry.  After years in the tutoring and coaching arenas, I believe the key ingredients to getting better grades is actually learning how to learn, what your learning style is, and how you can best optimise learning.

AND … this is something that Schools or Tutors don’t teach.

Learn to Learn…and get better grades is a system that was developed that will improve all of your grades – not just they grade in one or two of your subjects.  This is why it is different to what tutors generally do.

What you learn will also last you for a lifetime – not just the term or semester or year that you are undergoing a particular course.  This is what Schools and Universities do.

Learning to Learn can improve how you learn anything, improve who you are as a person , and improve how you interact with the world – so that you can achieve YOUR goals!
